About Geography Department

Bangabasi Evening College had developed as a section of Bangabasi College. However it was only in 1965 that the present Bangabasi Evening College emerged as an independently functioning unit. The Department of Geography was established in 2008. The Department had formed an integral part of college since its inception. The course offered to this institution is Undergraduate Course. According to New Educational Policy (NEP) of CU under Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF 2022) the Department offers 3 year General Cum Multidisciplinary Courses only. Here it is taught in combination with Science subjects, so BSc degree is conferred to the students. Previously it was taught with Arts subjects, so BA degree was offered. The college conducts Unit Tests, Mid-Term Test, Annual Test, Test Examinations before the Final University Examinations and other internal examinations to help the students prepare for the University examinations. Participation of the department in the courses offered by other departments The BSc. students opting for Geography General have to study two other general subjects like Bengali, English, Philosophy, Math, Economics etc. as Generic (Gen) and 3 Inter-Disciplinary (ID) Subjects. Gen students, of BA or BSc, determined by subject combination in CU in case of Geography and Economics. In case of Economics both BA and BSc Subject combinations are allowed, but for Geography, only BSc combination is allowed. A State Aided College Teacher (SACT) along with few visiting teachers is working at present. No post remains vacant.
